CHANGE IN VITAL ORGANIZATIONS

Leaders are rarely asked to join an organization to be the person that maintains the status quo.  Employees may wish that to be the case because their work is just that--to maintain the homeostasis of the organization.  However, good leaders and quality managers are wise change agents.  They know that it is important to "preserve the core values and core purpose of the organization while changing the cultural and operating practices, and the specific goals and strategies." (Jim Collins, 2000)

How do leaders know what to change?  High quality leaders are continually refreshing and extending their intellectual reach.  They, for example, at least consider the disruption that technology is affecting in the status quo of all work and learning.  They analyze and make meaning of relevant current data and they seek an understanding of future forces that may affect their ability to achieve their organization's mission.

MACY LEADERSHIP GROUP INC., members have many practical experiences of effectively leading and managing change efforts in large and small organizations.   We know how to set the direction; build a plan; and, design the project charters that help people be successful in implementing and refining the changed service, product, tool etc.  And, we understand the impact of change on people in leadership roles.

"Change is a process, not an event.  Change is made by individuals first, then institutions.  Change is a highly personal experience,  Change entails developmental growth in feelings and skills.  Change includes the possibility of the innovation being changed during the implementation."
(Concerns Based Systems International).

Change is challenging for most people.  Knowing what to change is difficult for many leaders.  Managing the "middle" leaves most managers feeling like "shock absorbers".

We understand the predictable conditions of the Leaders of organizations, the people Oshry calls the TOPS;
We understand the predictable conditions of the Middles of the organization
We understand the predictable conditions of the Producers of the organization, and
We understand the predictable conditions of the Customers of the organization...and we understand other choices can be made in the face of change and day-to-day life. (Barry Oshry, Seeing Systems)

MACY LEADERSHIP GROUP INC., can help the people of a changing organization respond in ways that will aid their effectiveness through simulations and learning sessions.
